Diving Bali - Padang Bai

DIVE PADANG BAI AREA

Cross Bali's eastern tip almost directly south from Tulamben until you run into water again, and you'll find Amuk Bay. Candidasa is on the northeast shore while Padang Bai (Grassy Bay) is located on the southwest corner. Most of the diving in this area is done north and east from Padang Bai. Due to the strong currents that run in this area, the coral is as abdundant and healthy as can be had any place. These currents carry plankton for the corals, small critters and fish for the bigger fish.

Due to these currents, expect waters that are variable with temperature, current and clarity but constant with prolific life. Sharks are almost guaranteed, and mola mola are spotted regularly during season. In calm regions of this area, such as Blue Lagoon, you can see cuttle fish, leaf scorpion fish, flat heads, estuarian stone fish, and the list just keeps on going. These are some incredible sites, but be mindful that they can be among the most challenging and demanding dives in Bali.

The swell and strong current coursing through Lombok Straight, brings not only rare and equisite diving, but unpredicable water movement, to include up and down currents. Be cautious in this area, and always carry signalling devices. Dive sites here include: Blue Lagoon and Temple close in, with Tepekong and Mimpang, and Biaha just a little to the north.
